A school principal is required to have professional leadership abilities. However, currently many school principals have not been able to optimally convey to teachers a series of activities or programs related to achieving the school's vision and mission. In addition, it is expected that the principal has the skills to foster a sense of pride among his staff regarding the profession as an educator. In terms of inspirational motivation, the principal has not fully succeeded in becoming a source of inspiration for his subordinates in achieving school goals optimally. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the behavior and work motivation of principals at the elementary school level, as well as evaluate the performance of principals. In addition, this study also aims to understand the impact of principal leadership and work motivation on the performance of teachers and education staff. This research uses a mixed methods approach, which is a research approach that integrates quantitative and qualitative methods to obtain comprehensive, valid, reliable, and objective data. By involving 100 samples, including from 7 elementary schools in Alas sub-district, the data was processed using SPSS 21. Research findings show that leadership has a negative impact because leaders' attitudes and behaviors do not yet reflect closeness, friendliness, and full consideration of teachers and education personnel. Meanwhile, work motivation has a positive influence on the performance of teachers and education personnel in elementary schools. This is because the principal is able to inspire with passion and confidence to teachers and education staff. Thus, it can be concluded that good leadership and work motivation are determining factors for the success of the performance of teachers and education personnel in elementary schools.
