Abstract

In the teaching and learning process in the independent curriculum, learning models or strategies are applied which we know as differentiated learning. This research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the effect of differentiated learning on improving the quality of character education for junior high school students. This research uses a combined quantitative and qualitative research method (mixed method). This method is applied to two things, namely the extent to which differentiated learning influences improving the quality of character education using quantitative methods and for supporting and inhibiting factors of differentiated learning using qualitative methods. The results obtained from this research are as follows: the average result of students' answers in the initial test (pre-test) given before students were subjected to differentiated learning model treatment was 68, meaning it was in the low category, the average value of students' answers in the final test (post-test) after students were subjected to differentiated learning model treatment was 85, meaning it was in the good category, the Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) significance value of the students' answers in the initial and final tests was 0.443, greater than 0.05 (0.443>0.0) means that in the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, the initial test and final test are declared to be normally distributed, the resulting simple linear regression equation constanta (a) value is 112.321, as well as the β value of the differentiated learning model regression coefficient (X) is 0.393, meaning it is positive. Based on the data obtained and the results of research on differentiation learning at SMP Negeri 2 Labuhan Badas, it shows that differentiation learning has a positive effect on improving students' character education at Junior High Schools.
