Abstract

This research has three objectives: 1) To explain lesson planning using the TaRL approach with Cadik modification at SD Negeri 1 Sumbawa; 2) To describe the implementation of teaching using the TaRL approach with Cadik modification at SD Negeri 1 Sumbawa; and 3) To evaluate teaching using the TaRL approach with Cadik modification in improving students' literacy skills at SD Negeri 1 Sumbawa. The research method employed is a mixed method with the exploratory sequential design. This study is evaluative research using the Countenance Stake model. The types of data used are qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative data concern lesson planning and teaching implementation, while quantitative data in this study consist of the results of students' literacy skills. Data collection procedures involve observation, interviews, documentation, and tests. Data analysis is conducted both qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings indicate that 1) Lesson planning with the TaRL approach and Cadik modification at SD Negeri 1 Sumbawa regarding teaching tools has been well fulfilled; 2) Teaching with the TaRL approach and Cadik modification at SD Negeri 1 Sumbawa was well implemented, despite some challenges faced by the implementing teachers; and 3) Evaluation of teaching with the TaRL approach and Cadik modification at SD Negeri 1 Sumbawa shows an improvement in students' literacy skills in the group of mutual word level by 2.89% and the group of meto rena boto story level by 7.85%. It was concluded that learning using the TaRL approach and Cadik modification was effective in improving students literacy skills. The application of the TaRL approach with Cadik modification needs to be re-implemented and can be used in other schools.
