Abstrak

Ritual communication is a part of society used to identify a person's identity. Ritual communication usually indicates responsibility towards the family, community, tribe, ideology, even religion involved. Attempts to gain an understanding of local diversity through interactions focused on ritual communication. Indonesia has given birth to diverse cultures and traditions, the role of society is to preserve and maintain the culture that comes from the ancestors. One of the traditions that resides in Marente village of Sumbawa district is the Turin Tana tradition. The ceremony is a cycle of birth, performed on a child who is seven days old, to introduce and reveal the baby's feet for the first time on the ground. This study aims to find out the ethnography of communication and the meaning that emanates from symbols in the implementation of the turin tana tradition in Marente village of Sumbawa Regency. Recognize that ritual as one way of communicating. The methods used in this study were qualitative with data collection techniques namely observation, interview, and documentation. The results of the study, how the ethnography of communication in the ritual of turin tana is with the presence of speech communities, communication activities, communication components, communication competencies, and language verietas. And also the meanings contained in the Turin tana procession, namely loto gul (yellow rice, loto lege (glutinous rice), lotobiasa (regular rice), nyeruda (kelap amuda), nyer uda (kelap atua), kipping and bete (typical food of sumbawa), gula mira (brown sugar), ramat (mesh), needle thread (thread and needle) um), kere white (white cloth).
