One of the factors that influence stunting is exclusive breastfeeding. This can be
seen from the results of a study by the United Nation Child's Fund (UNICEF) from
2005 to 2011. It was found that 32% of Indonesian babies received exclusive
breastfeeding for the first 6 months and 50% of children were given exclusive
breastfeeding up to 23 months old. The aims of this study were: 1) To describe the
pattern of exclusive breastfeeding for toddlers aged 6 months in the Work Area of
UPT Puskesmas Labuhan Badas Unit 1, 2) To analyze the relationship between
exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 0-59 months
in the Work Area of UPT Puskesmas Labuhan Badas Unit 1.
This study uses a mixed research method (mixed methods) between
quantitative and qualitative research methods. The instruments used were interview
questions addressed to informants and questionnaires addressed to 49 respondents as samples in the study.
The results of the qualitative analysis showed that exclusive breastfeeding is
needed to increase the immune system of mothers and children, while for
quantitative data analysis using the Chi Square Test, there is a relationship between
exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers 0-59 months, where
ρ-value = 0.000 (0.000 < 0.05) is obtained. So it was concluded that there was a
relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in
toddlers 0-59 months.
This, it can be concluded that exclusive breastfeeding can increase the immune
system of infants and mothers who are breastfeeding and there is a relationship
between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers aged 0-59
months. The results of this study provide input for mothers to provide exclusive
breastfeeding for babies so they can avoid stunting.
