The development of character-based Indonesian language teaching materials
is based on the fact that Indonesian language teaching materials are not available as
literacy materials for elementary school students in Sumbawa Regency and there is a
lack of reading references containing character values. The purpose of this research is
to produce character-based Indonesian language teaching materials as student literacy
materials. This research method uses a Mixed Method in the form of a simple
descriptive-interpretative qualitative analysis and quantitative descriptive. In this study,
researchers designed products using Research and Development (R&D) with a
research design adapted from the Borg and Gall model. This specification of character-
based Indonesian teaching materials contains 4 sections, namely 1) pre-introduction
consisting of front cover, preface, learning program, and table of contents, 2)
introductory section consisting of concept maps and sub-chapter titles, 3) content
section, namely material contains a collection of stories that contain character values,
and 4) the supporting part is equipped with components presenting material, actively
testing comprehension, actively trying, and actively experimenting. This Indonesian
language teaching material is valid for use in the learning process. This is evidenced by
the validation results from content/material experts with a percentage of 85%, design
experts obtaining a percentage of 89% and expert Indonesian language teachers 76%,
trials of character-based Indonesian teaching materials for students obtaining a
percentage of 84% making it suitable for use in the learning process and good quality
and can improve student character.
