Abstract

Knowledge about dental and oral health in Indonesia is still very lacking. Lack of public knowledge in caring for dental and oral health is the most frequently encountered problem in Indonesia. The most common dental and oral health problems in children are caries is 89.47% and gingivitis is 21.05%. Dental caries is a dental health disorder. Caries is caused by food residue that sticks to the surface of the teeth which can cause tooth decay. The impact on teeth become crumbly, have holes, and even break, resulting in loss of chewing power. The aim of this research is to analyze knowledge and behavior of dental and oral health care so that the relationship between the two can be analyzed. The research design here uses a cross sectional approach where all independent and dependent variables are observed simultaneously, using univariate and bivariate analysis. Overall, the results of this study showed no significant relationship between dental health knowledge and oral health care behavior among elementary school students.
