This research aims to determine the role of school principal leadership in improving teacher performance at the Muhammadiyah Lakaz Sumbawa Integrated Elementary School, Sumbawa District, Sumbawa Besar Regency.The method used in this research is a qualitative research method. Data collection tools use documentation, interviews and observation. Based on the research results, it is known that the leadership role of the school principal is in improving the performance of the Lakaz Sumbawa Muhammadiyah Integrated Elementary School teachers, the principal as implementing the school program, the principal as an excellent manager, creating a Muhammadiyah-based basic education function, supervising the smooth running of activities and evaluating the increase in teacher professionalism. So that it can show good performance in the aspects of preparation and learning planning, collaborating with individual students, using learning media, involving students in various learning experiences, active leadership from teachers and involving the role of parents/guardians in student education which encourages students to learn. active. Therefore, the principal as a leader must provide motivation for the performance of teachers in the school, coordination of teacher professionalism is needed to support the leadership of the principal. In addition, rewards and punishment are needed by the principal for teacher performance, improvements in infrastructure and quality culture are needed to increase teacher work motivation. as well as training through teacher associations such as the KKG.
