THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN NEED TO BELONG AND LONELINESS IN OVERSEAS STUDENTS OF SUMBAWA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
The loneliness that is felt by overseas students from the beginning as a new student to a final student occurs because of an unfulfilled need to belong, a sense of emptiness, and a lack of satisfaction and meaningfulness in relationships with others. This study aims to determine the relationship between Need to Belong and Loneliness in Overseas Students at the University of Technology, Sumbawa. The approach used in this research is a correlational quantitative approach. Data collection techniques using psychological scales. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between the need to belong and loneliness for overseas students at the Sumbawa University of Technology with a correlation coefficient of 0.551, which was in the strong category with a sig. (p) = 0.000 or p <0.05 which means that the higher the need to belong to the overseas students at the University of Technology, Sumbawa, the higher the loneliness. Likewise, vice versa, the lower the need to belong to students from the Sumbawa University of Technology, the lower the loneliness.
