Abstract

This study aims to determine dance learning strategies for mentally retarded students at SLBN 1 Sumbawa. In this study using practicum material by teaching the Selendang Dedara Samawa dance, in extracurricular activities in the field of dance. This study uses a qualitative research method with a case study research approach. The results of the study explain that: 1) The use of effective learning strategies for mentally retarded students, namely the demonstration strategy is a way for researchers to socialize the aims and objectives of this research by explaining the background of this research and explaining the synopsis of the Selendang Dedara Samawa dance which will be learned by mentally retarded students as well as showing dance videos so that students become more interested in learning this dance; 2) The strategy of providing motivation to learn in the process of learning the art of dance is carried out by researchers to increase the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of students in learning; 3) practice and repetition strategies are used by researchers to introduce the choreographic flow of the Selendang Dedara Samawa dance and practice transitional motion towards a predetermined floor pattern; 4) The strategy of giving rewards (prizes) This strategy is able to have a big influence so that students become more enthusiastic about carrying out the training process with food or snacks.
