Abstract

With the excavation of sources, the historical potential of hidden chiefdoms and kingdoms began to unfold and surface. This allows us to know, know, and understand that history so that it becomes sustainable material for future generations of Sumbawa. This research was conducted at the Regional Library and Archives of Sumbawa Regency and focused on the history of the establishment of the Samawa Puin Kedatuan from 1319 to 1618. The approach used in this research is historical research which focuses on the past with an emphasis on data to explain, construct, and be as accurate as possible. may describe events or incidents that occurred. This approach is used by gathering effective sources, assessing them critically, and using data collected. Heuristics, criticism/verification, interpretation/explanation, and historiography/historical writing are stages of the research process. Data sources used are articles, books, manuscripts, Samawa books, and artifacts left in the East and West Sumbawa regions. Methods of data collection using documentation study and literature study. The results show that the formation of the Kedatuan Samawa Puin from 1319 to 1618 was not influenced by the arrival of Hindu-Buddhist people who were influenced by the Majapahit Kingdom. The people of Sumbawa are also familiar with dynamism and animism, as well as several Datuans who embrace Islam. It is clear that trade routes allowed this civilization to enter Sumbawa, which appealed to individuals and groups for transit or layovers. Second, the Samawa Puin Kedatuan was formed based on the agreement of twelve scattered datu. The purpose of its establishment is to regulate written law on territorial boundaries in a wiser and contemporary manner, regulate state and social life because society is only bound by "awig-awig" and regulates customary law, which is very simple in written form.
