Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the success of the documentary film “Barapan Kebo : Traditions of the Sumbawa People” in documenting the intangible cultural heritage in Sumbawa. This film was directed by Anton Susilo and has been uploaded on YouTube. This study uses a qualitative method by combining film content analysis and interviews with informants who have knowledge, understanding, or experience relevant to the Barapan Kebo tradition and intangible cultural heritage in Sumbawa. The results of the study show that the documentary film “Barapan Kebo : Traditions of the Sumbawa People” successfully describes the Barapan Kebo tradition and intangible cultural heritage in Sumbawa. This film is able to convey traditional messages and values well, provide additional information and understanding for the audience, as well as being an effective tool in promoting and appreciating intangible cultural heritage. This research contributes to understanding the role of documentary film as a medium for documenting intangible cultural heritage and evaluating its success in the context of the Barapan Kebo tradition in Sumbawa. The results of this study can be used as a reference for related parties in developing efforts to preserve and promote intangible cultural heritage in Sumbawa and enrich the literature on cultural documentation through film media
